Connecting the community to the neighboring wetlands

Connecting the community to the neighboring wetlands

The Pine Valley Branch Library is uniquely situated with a shopping center to the north, and protected wetlands to the south. The proposed site plan features multiple outdoor amenities for both children and adults, such as an event plaza for gathering, a children’s plaza for storytime, and an outdoor porch for quiet reading. The bio-retention areas featured throughout the site function not only as stormwater collection, but also potential outdoor education opportunities. Additionally, the site will be connected to the Cross City Trail, such that the library will be accessible by pedestrians and cyclists. The proposed Pine Valley Library footprint is approximately 16,000 sqft and is arranged on the site with the intent of connecting patrons to the wetlands just beyond the property. Strategically placed fenestrations will provide views to the natural wooded areas that surround the site. The interior is intended to be a bright and colorful space that can easily transform to meet the needs of the library and community. As a library of the future, Pine Valley will be a place where people can not only consume content, but also become creators.
